Adchem Corporation, a US manufacturer of film and foam bonding adhesive tape, has published a white paper entitled 'Protecting Adhesive Tape Systems From Static Electricity'.

Adchem said that the paper addresses a number of measures that may be taken to control the effects of static electricity during the use and conversion of pressure-sensitive tape, as well as how to reduce the hazards and risks to pressure-sensitive tape users and converters from the buildup of electrostatic charges.

Adchem added that it makes several key recommendations, such as maintaining a relative humidity above 50 per cent with water spray misters to mitigate problems for uncoated papers, whilst minimising slippage in the transport system where PSA tapes contact stationary, or slower moving idler rollers.

It also advises about the addition of active ionisers as an effective static control mechanism.

The Static control white paper is available on Adchem's website.
