A New Generation Of Portable CMMs Is Born

An Axila product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jan 27, 2004

The Sigma is said to be the first Ethernet portable CMM with its own IP address, which can be plugged into a computer or directly on a network.

The new Sigma is the most accurate and most flexible arm.

The Sigma combines a very strong mechanical design with a very light weight starting at 10 lbs.

New high resolution encoders and miniaturized electronics also explain the new level of performance.

The Sigma is the first Ethernet portable CMM with its own IP address : which can be plugged into a computer or directly on a network! Choosing the length of a portable arm was never easy in the past.

Thanks to a unique modular concept, the Sigma offers a major innovation in the world of portable CMMs: the upgradable length.

Axila offers different length change programs.

Sigma customers are no longer stuck with a fixed length arm since they can upgrade their Sigma to a new length ! The Sigma exists in standard in 8 different lengths up to 17 ft, the world's largest 6 axis portable arm.

Custom lengths are also available.

For quality inspection (molds, plastic parts...), the Sigma is delivered with Delcam PowerInspect.

Measurements can be done with contact probes, or with Axila's laser scanner G-Scan, the first rotary laser scanner introduced in the market.

G-Scan plugs on the Sigma at the same time as contact probes.

Thanks to G-Scan's rotary axis, there is no need of a dedicated 7 axis scanning arm: the Sigma is a scanning arm too ! This is just another example of Sigma's high flexibility and intelligent design.

The complete system includes: Sigma portable CMM Carrying case, 3 contact probes with auto ID : 15mm, 6mm, point One repeatable mounting base Laptop computer.
