Automation in stretch wrapping raised safety
When a company audited its existing stretch wrapping machinery, it found that there was a potential safety problem as operators had to reach into machines during change-overs.
Health and Safety regulations have become part of the business criteria for all companies across every industry, so when Adrian Ellis of Smart Systems (a member of the international group Aliplast) audited his existing stretch wrapping machinery, he found that there was a potential safety problem.
Several of the machines were semi-automatic, which meant that every time a change was made, the operator would have to reach into the machine.
The safety of his operators was paramount and so he began the quest to find a fully automatic machine, which also conformed with the stringent Health and Safety regulations.
Ellis invited several companies to tender, and after carefully evaluating the brief and ensuring that he could meet the requirements, John Moore from Aetna was able to arrange a visit to an existing client for a demonstration of the Robopac Spiror 400 HP fully automatic spiral wrapping and banding machine's capabilities.
Adrian also received a fully explanatory CD Rom to view which convinced him that he had found a company that truly understood his needs.
Said Ellis: "John Moore has been extremely helpful to us, both during the installation of the new Spiror 400 HP, and in training our operators.
During the learning period when operator error is frequent, whenever we asked for help, John never let us down and I personally am very pleased with the relationship we have developed.
I can see why many of our suppliers recommended Aetna as they had found the same professional approach when they purchased Aetna products." In addition to the obvious safety improvements the Spiror produces a cheap, fast and effective wrapping medium that reduces transport damage.
Unlike other strapping or shrink wrapping solutions the stretch film keeps "working" throughout its life, thus ensuring a tight pack at all times.
The system also eliminates wasteful and expensive cardboard packaging.
Uniquely, the Robopac range of Spiror machines can be modified to apply Carrs Rapaid, a "Technical Film" that gives very high mechanical resistance as well as an excellent substrate for printing company logos etc In the latter part of 2004 Smart Systems expect to complete the building of a new Distribution Centre, and have already made plans to install a second machine from Aetna.
Robopac Spiror machines can now be considered as the "machine of choice" for all aluminium extruders, architectural stockholders, coaters and painters.
