The Gastec detection tube system, available from Anachem, provides employees with a high-quality, portable device that gives an instant, precise on-the-spot reading within hazardous environments.

The world-renowned Gastec detection tube system, available from Anachem, provides employees with a high-quality, portable device that gives an instant, precise on-the-spot reading within hazardous environments Used by health and safety officers and occupational hygienists worldwide in a number of workplaces such as factories, refineries, chemical plants and dry cleaners, the easy-to-use detection tube system accurately measures gases and vapours from ppb/ppm to percentage volume values

Comprising a Gastec precision piston sampling pump and standard detector tubes, the handheld, cylindrical pump delivers precise volumes using a vacuum - unlike bellows-type pumps that can lose tension and produce inconsistent sample volumes.

Gastec detector glass tubes are filled with an absorbent material, such as silica gel, that is impregnated with a chemical reagent that reacts with the target gas.

A Gastec tube is inserted in the sampling pump and air is drawn through the tube.

Only one pump stroke is required on average for an accurate reading, unlike other brands of gas detector tube systems, where up to 10-15 strokes are needed.

The sampled air reacts in the presence of the target gas to produce a colour change and the length of the colour stain is proportional to the concentration of gas present.

A calibration scale printed on the tube allows an immediate and accurate concentration reading - without the need for laboratory analysis.

Gastec tube systems are used to detect toxic gases at Huntsman Tioxide - one of the world's largest producers of titanium dioxide pigments, and a valued customer to Anachem.

Titanium dioxide pigments provide whiteness and opacity to a vast range of everyday products, from coatings and plastics to paper, inks, cosmetics and food.

To produce the pigment a raw material rich in titanium is processed and treated in order to extract the titanium.

The titanium is then reformed as titanium dioxide to a very closely defined particle size.

Finally the product is coated and milled to produce a range of versatile pigments for key end-uses.

Mark Robinson, occupational hygienist at the Huntsman Tioxide plant in Teesside, explains: "We store and produce a variety of potentially hazardous chemicals on our site and the safety of our personnel is of paramount importance.

"Gastec is the most accurate detector tube system available and we use a wide variety of tubes for applications from COSHH assessments, STEL and TWA measurements to confined space entry safety detection.

"The Gastec detector tube system from Anachem is easy to use, and portable so we can take it anywhere on site for an accurate reading without the need to send samples off to a lab for analysis".

New to Anachem's comprehensive range of gas detection equipment are the hugely successful Gastec starter kits including indoor air and breathing air quality kits for as little as £95.

Suitable for users new to gas detection, or simply as a cost-effective alternative to existing methods, Anachem offers industry-specific 'off-the-shelf' starter kits, or customers can choose their own 'design-a-kits' ranging from COSHH assessment, confined space entry to unknown hazardous gas assessment and hospital safety.

The new handy carry case is designed to be convenient and ergonomic while on-site.

The waist strap can be used to secure the case around the body - which is useful if being used at heights or in awkward confined spaces.

As a supplier, Anachem offers the following advantages: 99 per cent of tubes are held in in stock; next-day delivery is provided for orders placed before 4pm; temperature-controlled storage facilities are used; batch number traceability is available; fast access is provided to technical support and advice; certified detector tubes are available for more gases than from any other manufacturer.

With over 30 years' experience as a specialist supplier to the scientific, health and safety and environmental markets, Anachem's knowledge of gas detection and product offering is said to be unrivalled.

From pre-sale advice and documentation through to full service packages, Anachem's ethos is ensuring safe environments, offering reliability and excellent customer focus, combined with the most accurate gas detection equipment available.
