Manufacturing data system integrated seamlessly

An Ascari product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Sep 3, 2007

Semiconductors manufacturer has adapted operations management and factory automation data software to integrate it seamlessly into an existing manufacturing execution system.

Ascari, specialists in the development and implementation of operations management and factory automation software, has announced that Atmel North Tyneside (Atmel), a UK designer and manufacturer of advanced semiconductors has implemented a Microsoft SharePoint Services portal incorporating advanced technology from Predisys that increases Atmel's capability to drive continuous improvement.

"Atmel's Engineering Group leader, Iain Docherty, said: "We chose Ascari and the solution from Predisys because they could integrate it seamlessly into our existing Manufacturing Execution System.

The large volumes of data that are generated from our complex manufacturing process are summarised into process capability and stability.

This allows us to rapidly react to any deviations and address issues before they affect our customers.

Another advantage of Ascari's implementation skills coupled with the Predisys technology is the fact that huge volumes of data can be analysed in a matter of a few seconds.

Speaking as a Process Engineer, this is critical for identifying improvements we can make to our manufacturing processes.

The next step is for us to work with Ascari to incorporate post production test data into the system to allow us to correlate production and test data within the same system.

Although we already do this, the capability to do it within the same system will give us a much faster analytical capability.

Engineers can concentrate on using the data rather than having to go and find it." Director of Solutions Delivery at Ascari, Tim Matsell, said: "Operational and Manufacturing Performance Management is critical to companies such as Atmel.

Using a fully supported platform from Microsoft and incorporating the advanced technology from Predisys has allowed us to deliver a intranet based portal that Atmel can not only utilise immediately but can build on in the future.

One of the key drivers for implementing technology like this is to allow the research and development functions in the business to have instant access to the manufacturing, test and assembly data thus allowing products to be brought to market with much quicker implementation times.

Companies like Atmel who are moving towards this will be the winners".
