The latest innovation from @Source QX [At Source QX] is SpeakHear, a combination of the company's ProtectHear personally moulded earplugs with a radio accessory.

Hard-wired PMR (Personal Mobile Radio) accessories have been configured to simply clip externally to the earplugs, giving the benefit of hearing protection while been able to effectively communicate with colleagues on the shop floor.

ProtectHear custom moulded medical-grade silicon earplugs are individually crafted from an exact impression of the user's ear.

They incorporate an acoustic filter that reduces (attenuates) the damaging high frequency industrial noise, while maintaining the user's ability to hear speech, shouted warnings and to use telephones.

Countdown has started on the EU Directive, Physical Agents (Noise) and April 2006 is closer than you think when you consider the need to assess the noise level risk, review eliminating the risk at source, establish appropriate health surveillance and provide adequate protection against the reduced action levels.

Noise induced hearing loss is no stranger to industry; a constant background of noisy machinery, vehicles and manufacturing processing has led to many thousands of workers suffering this socially disabling and totally irreversible condition.

Known as NIHL, this is a totally avoidable condition as long as an effective hearing protection system is used, and this is where the problem lies.

Earplug style systems are only as good as the way they are used and an ill fitting one is less than useless.

Disposable foam ear plugs must be inserted deep into the ear canal to be effective, which many find difficult to achieve, and although when fitted correctly they offer protection, they have the disadvantage of cutting out audible communication.

Equally, earmuff-style systems can be effective when worn correctly, but these are heavy, uncomfortable and hot and require ongoing maintenance to maintain their effectiveness; they also cut out audible communication.

Lincolnshire company @Source QX has created the solution to the problem with its ProtectHear custom moulded medical-grade silicon earpieces.

Industry-proven and third-party CE certified, ProtectHear inserts offer all day wearability and can be worn comfortably with all other PPE equipment, such as helmets and glasses.

They have unrivaled durability; with no moving parts, a lifespan of up to seven years can be expected.
