Baan sets up dedicated SCM business unit
Baan has further extended its supply chain management knowledge-driven enterprise strategy with the formation of a dedicated strategic SCM business unit.
Baan - the leading enterprise application provider for industrial enterprises and part of Invensys plc - has further extended its Supply Chain Management (SCM) knowledge-driven enterprise strategy with the formation of a dedicated strategic SCM business unit.
The new SCM business unit is centered around solutions that can assist customers to achieve optimal relationships between the key enterprise processes of sourcing, manufacturing, warehousing, transportation and fulfillment.
The new Baan SCM business unit will integrate the CAPS Logistics business and will leverage functionality from iBaan for Logistics and the recently launched iBaan for SCM solutions to help companies achieve operational excellence in supply chain management.
President of CAPS Logistics, Ed Daihl, heads up the new business unit, which will address the requirements of customers in the Hybrid and Discrete Manufacturing industries, and organizations focused on implementing Lean Manufacturing and Lean Logistics approaches.
The SCM business unit will combine software, applied business intelligence and professional services that can help organizations maximize and improve throughput, inventory utilization, supplier relations and performance, logistics and procedure execution.
This will enable Baan to build on the existing combined customer base from CAPS Logistics and the iBaan for SCM and iBaan for Logistics solutions which totals over 680 organizations worldwide.
Commenting on the formation of the Baan SCM business unit, Ed Daihl said: "This initiative demonstrates Baan's commitment to the expanding SCM market, which analyst research indicates will grow from $5 billion to $16 billion by 2005.
iBaan for SCM is the only solution with a manufacturing heritage to deliver extensive manufacturing expertise and ERP for organisations with complex supply chain requirements.
Combining it with iBaan for Logistics, a powerful Internet-enabled Transport Management System (TMS) and adding the experience and technology of CAPS Logistics is a first within the industry.
The new business unit will offer a truly end-to-end SCM portfolio to help organizations to gain competitive advantage from their supply chain management." iBaan for SCM and iBaan for Logistics are part of the iBaan suite of Internet-enabled solutions that combines proven Baan technology with new developments to enable customers to take significant steps towards seamlessly integrating systems and processes.
It provides end-users with personalized and easy-to-use information, and empowers businesses to collaborate with their customers and suppliers over the Internet.
