A global provider of integrated supply chain solutions can save pharmaceutical, food and beverage and automotive industries up to 30% on their total supply chain costs.

Swisslog, a global provider of integrated supply chain solutions, has selected an iBaan for Supply Chain Management (iBaan for SCM) solution from Baan - the leading enterprise application provider for industrial enterprises and part of Invensys plc - to support its major new consultancy service Swisslog will use the iBaan Supply Chain Designer application as a key part of this new service to provide customers with comprehensive network design capabilities

This can help Swisslog customers in the retail, pharmaceutical, food and beverage and automotive industries save up to 30 percent on their total supply chain costs.

Swisslog, headquartered in Buchs, Switzerland, operates four major divisions - Warehouse and Distribution Solutions, Healthcare Solutions, Consulting Services and Material Flow and Robotic Systems.

The introduction of iBaan Supply Chain Designer will enrich the consulting offer of Swisslog by adding a core network design tool.

This will provide Swisslog with strategic design, modeling and optimization features to help speed the planning and implementation of supply chain networks for UK and global customers.

Baan UK worked with alliance organization, Advanced Planning Systems, during the sale, proof of concept and functionality fit phases of the overall selection process.

Michael Dittrich, senior logistics consultant at Swisslog commented: "More and more of our customers ask for logistics analysis and studies.

The selection of iBaan Supply Chain Designer can help us to meet these demands by bringing strategic and technical knowledge closer together.

As a consequence, we can then better quantify network design related-decisions to optimize the supply chain concepts for each of our customers.

"Given the variation in geographical regions and the number of levels within the supply chain, we estimate that this improvement in our network study capabilities offers a potential saving of between 5-30 percent of an organization's total supply chain costs," added Michael Dittrich.

Catherine Sigmar, VP and managing director of Baan UK added: "We're delighted to reach this agreement with Swisslog as it presents a particularly exciting opportunity for the company's global customers, and the logistics community in general, to benefit from Baan's proven supply chain technology expertise.

We believe this is an important step in developing technological change in the logistics marketplace.

"Swisslog is a multinational operation and we firmly believe that the deployment of the iBaan for SCM solution in the UK will help them drive their global efforts and provide a platform to roll-out the Supply Chain Consultancy service worldwide," continued Catherine Sigmar.
