Low inertia motors drive motion control
Baldor has launched a new range of brushless servo motors for precision motion control applications, based on rare-earth neodymium iron boron magnets.
The compact form factor and adjustable speed capabilities of these units supports a wide range of industrial applications including bridge and trolley drives, web handling, machine tools, and fans and pumps.
The new dynamic braking feature is now standard on both the general-purpose and washdown-duty SmartMotor models, and available as an option on close-coupled pump designs.
Field programmability of the module has also been enhanced with several new modes including a PID process control function, and the ability to set a multiple-speed profile that is actuated with a single Go command.

Motion control programming is multi-tasking
Baldor has launched a new version of its Mint system development environment to support the evolving needs of machinery and automation OEMs.
Baldor has consistently led the market with this novel electric motor technology, which integrates precision adjustable speed control capabilities into an AC motor, saving considerable space compared with standalone inverter and motor components, speeding installation, and eliminating cabling.
SmartMotors are available in standard C-face and foot-mounted designs, as well as specialised washdown-duty or close-coupled pump designs, in power ratings from 0.75 to 7.5kW.
The SmartMotor concept offers important advantages for industrial users.
The motor and control are completely compatible because the control has been designed and tuned to the performance of the motor.
By eliminating cabling, the products completely sidestep the interference problems which can commonly arise when long cables are routed around the factory environment, and reduce line voltage reflections - or 'ring up' - which contribute to premature motor failure in many adjustable speed applications.
SmartMotors also come with a 32-character plain language keypad, making them easy to learn and operate.
Baldor's Universal Keypad Language simplifies set-up and use by providing access to functionality using plain English statements, such as PRESET SPEED which provides a range of user-selectable options.
This makes it simple to implement one-off applications, and - as the language is common across a wide range of inverters, vector and servo controls - providing a powerful advantage for OEM systems.
The keypad is supplied separately for easy installation on a remote control panel, hand held use, or attachment directly to the SmartMotor housing.
Reliability and durability and maximised thanks to the use of high performance components.
These include motor windings wound with inverter spike resistant magnet wire, and motor bearings lubricated with Exxon Polyrex EM Polyurea grease for longer life in severe loading conditions, and an integrated cooling package. Request a free brochure from Baldor UK ...
