Universal joints are corrosion resistant
in vacuum
Corrosion resistant universal joints and complete shaft assemblies are being manufactured from a variety of stainless steel grades, for ultra high vacuum applications.
US manufacturer of universal joints, Belden, is offering corrosion resistant universal joints and complete shaft assemblies for ultra high vacuum (UHV) applications For use in an UHV environment, special materials, extreme cleanliness and baking of the entire system to remove traces of water and gases is required

Miniature joints have high precision
High precision miniature joints, with an outer diameter as small as 8mm, suit miniature machinery, medical equipment, model making and many applications, in which space is restricted.
Needle bearing universal joints are precise
Redesigned needle bearing universal joints have sealed lubricated needle bearings, making the joints practically maintenance free while operating precisely at high rev/min for extended periods.
In UHV chambers, universal joints are often used for the handling or operating mechanisms that manipulate or move materials that are researched or modified in these chambers, or to control the process that is used for that.
Universal joints and complete shaft assemblies are manufactured from a variety of stainless steel grades, including AISI 303 (1.4305), 304 (1.4301) and 316L (1.4404) to prevent outgassing.
Outgassing is a major issue for UHV systems and can be minimised by using materials with low vapour pressure such as stainless steel.

A range of stainless steel universal joints have AISI 303 stainless steel yokes and AISI 416 steel pins and blocks to provide higher strength and improved wear resistance.
Website for universal joint specification
Belden, a manufacturer of universal joints, has launched an improved website which provides quotes for single and double universal joints and telescoping drive shaft assemblies etc.
The yokes of the universal joints as well as the pins and block are machined from the same selected stainless steel material.
The joint can be supplied free of grease and lubricants to minimise the effort necessary to clean the parts for installation.
Lubricants and a wide range of plastics are not permitted in UHV applications since the outgas of these materials hinders establishing ultra high vacuum.
Belden's specialty is custom assemblies made to specific applications and exact operating criteria.
Belden provides an extensive line of precision engineered universal joints with complete shaft assemblies for a wide range of applications.
* About Belden - Belden Incorporated is a leading manufacturer of high quality, precision universal joints and power transmission assemblies.
Going back to 1939, when three brothers opened a precision machine shop, the company rapidly expanded through the development of an extensive product line.
Belden provides high-performance solutions to a vast number of industries with a focus on custom universal joints and drive shaft assemblies, made exclusively to customers exact specifications.
The company's specialty lies in these custom assemblies, and novel manufacturing processes give Belden the flexibility to produce small batches just as cost-effectively as high volume standard universal joints.
Belden supplies an extensive line of high-quality precision universal joints with complete shaft assemblies as well as couplings for a wide range of customers with unique applications.
These applications include steering and shift linkage assemblies for specialty vehicles as well as industrial and off-road vehicles, aerospace, packaging/converting and conveying equipment, food processing equipment, steel roll forming and levelling equipment, machine tools and woodworking equipment for the furniture industry, and OEM machine tools.
