Broadbent Stanley in oil-industry lathe buy-back

A Broadbent Stanley product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Aug 21, 2008

Broadbent Stanley has bought back two lathes from the same customer it sold them to 20 years ago - both models were HSP 9.7/8in (255mm) spindle bores, one a 2m bed with, the second a 3m version.

Broadbent Stanley supplied two 14in hollow spindle CNC lathes to one of its customers in the Jebel-Ali Freezone region of the Gulf in the last 18 months.

When the second new machine was installed late last year, the customer pointed out he still had his two Broadbent Stanley hollow spindle, manual lathes, supplied new in the 1980s.

These were now effectively redundant following the installation of the new CNC models - and he wondered if Graham Thomas, managing director of Broadbent Stanley, would like to buy them back.

But even before the machines landed back on British soil the 3m variant was sold back to the gulf, although this time to Oman.

Prior to the commencement of any rebuild, Broadbent Stanley personnel carry out a full and detailed survey on the subject machine to ensure there are no surprises in store at a later date or in the case of a customer's machine, no hidden costs.
