A metal cutting lubrication system by Bielomatik that delivers a fine aerosol spray to the cutting tool tip can now be retrofitted to existing machine tools.

Bielomatik said that its latest version its Minimal Quantity Lubrication (MQL) system for metal cutting machine tools can be retrofitted So existing machining operations can be changed more easily from use of conventional water-based lubrication of the cutting tip to the cost-saving, highly efficient MQL system

Bielomatik's Single Channel MQL system delivers a fine aerosol spray directly to the cutting tip.

Bielomatik produces the oil-based aerosolac using a multi-valve aerosol generating unit.

The unit delivers MQL to the cutting tip through the spindle through a rotary transmission unit or externally using positional nozzles, to give total control over discharge levels for different cutting tools.

With latest single channel MQL unit are the multi-valve and a proportional valve system to smooth out any potential fluctuations in the delivered output.

They ensure that correct preset pressures and oil flow are maintained, said Bielomatik to manufacturingtalk.

They add to the effectiveness of the Bielomatik MQL system ensuring that it delivers the correct amount of lubricant to the cutting tip, extending tool life and maintaining surface finish.

The cost of purchasing, maintaining and disposing of cutting fluids has become a significant factor when evaluating a machine's operating cost.

Up-grading to the Bielomatik MQL system delivers precise measured quantities of lubricant to the cutting tip and, said Bielomatik, offers tremendous beneficial financial gains.

Apart from initially reducing the amount of lubricant costs, any machine shop that switches to MQL benefits from much easier disposal of metal cuttings since they are virtually oil-free.

Machine performance is also enhanced, particularly production time, said Bielomatik.

The company said that MQL has reduced machining operations by as much as 50% without detriment to the quality of the finished component.

The Bielomatik Single Channel MQL system included integrated controls.

30 different programs can be selected to accommodate different tooling and component machining operations.

Bielomatik claimed that recognition of the financial and environmental benefits of MQL systems means that new machine builds often include MQL technology.

Now, the latest Single Channel MQL system overcomes most of the former retrofit difficulties, enabling existing machining operations to be converted to MQL and thus enjoy all the inherent benefits.

For companies genuinely interested in switching to MQL technology Bielomatik has a test rig which enables users to assess potential environmental and costs savings.
