Laser-based, non-contact, tool setting system measures rotating tools as well as the mechanically measuring non-rotating tools in five approach directions.

Blum NovoTest has developed its LaserControl NT-H 3D tool setting system designed for use on CNC mill-turn centres Blum reckoned that the LaserControl NT-H 3D will be a 'huge success' at the UK's MACH 2008 exhibition

The device is an adaptation of the already established Blum LaserControl non-contact tool setting technology.

The LaserControl NT-H 3D provides non-contact measurement of rotating tools as well as the mechanical measurement of non-rotating tools in five approach directions.

Traditionally turning tools are measured with a laser and milling tools utilize a mechanical probe, said Blum to manufacturingtalk.com, but the NT-H 3D eliminates the need for both these types - significantly improving setting times.

The LaserControl NT-H3D can set the radius and tool length for turning and milling tools and this reduces set-ups and shortens machine downtime.

Measuring both sets of tools in one system, the NT-H3D can eliminate the need for two separate systems.

Using one complete system, the LaserControl NT-H3D offers exceptional accuracy for all measuring requirements - ideal for machines where space is limited, said Blum.

Competitor products can only offer two separate systems and this reduces accuracy levels and machine accessibility.

* Locate anywhere on a mill-turn centre - to further enhance ease of use and machine accessibility the LaserControl NT-H3D can be mounted anywhere on the machine.

Blum said it gives the machine operator optimal flexibility as machine tool set-ups are different from one machine to the next with tool turrets and spindles mounted in different locations.

Also capable of conducting temperature compensation calculations in all three axes, this system is guaranteed to be a success among users of multi-functional machine tools, said Blum.

* measurement accuracy - further improving accuracy, the NT-H3D houses Blum's Shark 360 patented technology - a measuring mechanism with face gear that significantly improves probe life and measurement accuracy.

The technology behind the Shark 360 system guarantees that the measuring stylus will only deflect at 180 deg to the workpiece or tool upon contact.

As the probe only moves in one direction as opposed to unpredictable deflection with competitor products, the Shark 360 system ensures the LaserControl NT-H3D will improve accuracy levels beyond that of competitor systems.

If you have a mill-turn machine tool or an alternate multi-function machine tool and demand exceptional accuracy levels, come and visit us at MACH 2008, said Blum NovoTest.

* Blum NovoTest at MACH 2008, NEC, Birmingham, UK, April 21-25, Hall 5, Stand 5150.
