Very accurate bore-gauging system developed

To find an extremely accurate, easy to use bore gauging system to measure the safety critical bearing bores, Bowers coupled Smart-Plug measuring-heads with precise Sylvac digital indicators.

Challenged with the need to find an extremely accurate, easy to use bore gauging system to measure the safety critical bearing bores within an in-house manufactured component, renowned supplier to the heavy commercial truck sector - Undergear Engineering - recently turned to the world's leading manufacturer of internal measuring devices, Bowers Metrology.

To meet West Bromwich, UK-based, Undergear's demanding specification, Bowers coupled their extremely accurate new Smart-Plug measuring-heads together with easy to read, precise Sylvac digital indicators, encasing the resulting combination within tough protective shrouds.

Now in continuous shop-floor use the robust new, precise Bowers gauges provide great accuracy and speed of use within the company's harsh manufacturing environment.

The ingenious new Bowers Smart-Plugs replace Undergear's previously used analogue instruments, in addition to improving the company's measuring accuracy, the new digital gauges remove the potential for interpretation errors, inherent in the earlier system.

The digital signal generated by Undergear's advanced new gauges, now allows traceable part certificates to be produced, whilst the speed of use of the new gauges means that bearing bore inspection routines can now be completed within component manufacturing cycle-times.
