Bench device tests surface roughness
A universal, bench-mountable surface-roughness tester is based on a skidless measuring system and measures in Ra, Rz, Rt, Rp, Rv, Rq, RSm, RmaxD and Material ratio curve.
CV Instruments, the material-testing division of the Bowers Metrology Group, has introduced its CV R-190 Universal, Bench Surface-Roughness Tester Bowers claimed that the robust new CV unit can be used in a company's production shop or in a measurement laboratory

Bowers Sylvac Caliper measures large shafts
Bowers recently supplied 10ft capacity Ultra-Light Sylvac Caliper to measure the length of exceptionally large shafts, an operation which was time-consuming on a CMM.
Using an advanced skidless measuring system, the R-190 has an inductive pickup with interchangeable stylii.
It measures in a wide range of roughness parameters, including Ra, Rz, Rt, Rp, Rv, Rq, RSm, RmaxD and Material ratio curve.
CV Instruments can add other roughness parameters on request.
Aiding the advanced unit's flexibility, the large capacity, 0.001 micron resolution tester has 'cut-off' option lengths of 0.08mm, 0.25mm, 0.8mm and 2.5mm.
The R-190's adjustable tracer is mounted on a main 500mm work column, itself mounted in a solid granite base.
It operates in a minimum distance of 100mm or a maximum of 380mm from the unit's granite surface.
The tester's worktable has a 360-deg rotational range and is able to incline through +/-10-deg.
The unit also has a range of 'V' blocks that are able to accommodate a variety of sizes of cylindrical components.
The R-190 is supplied with two stylii.
One is a standard stylus, intended for roughness tests on plain and round surfaces.
It can be used within bores from 10mm diameter, with a maximum depth of 18mm.
A second stylus is included for use on plain surfaces.
It too can be used in bores from 4mm diameter, with a maximum depth of 15mm.
The comprehensive CV R-190 Universal, Bench Surface-Roughness Tester package includes a high quality PC, with Windows XP, and easy to use control and drive units.
