Energy efficiency determined compressor
choice
Energy-conscious dairy products plant chose frequency controlled screw compressors, which work with the compressed air demand by producing the exact volume of at the pressure required.
Boge Compressors has designed and built a complete energy-efficient turn-key compressed air solution for The Cheese Company's Lockerbie, Scotland, creamery This unique installation will simultaneously provide a reliable and energy-efficient source of compressed air to both the creamery and Arla Foods' new 150 million litre dairy facility being built alongside it

Compressors feature frequency control
Frequency controlled models together with remote visualisation and control are key features of a new range of air cooled or water cooled oil free compressors from 45 to 355 kW.
Compressed air is used at many stages of the cheese and butter making processes.
In order to expand the Lockerbie facility to accommodate the new Arla dairy all of the site's systems were reviewed.
Rod Challis, engineering manager at the Lockerbie site, said: "It was apparent that our original compressed air system would not be able to meet the air demands of the site's increased production.
We therefore needed to install a new system that ensured we achieved the most economical and efficient use of compressed air regardless of peak or off-peak air demands or fluctuations in production levels.
At the same time opting for energy efficient equipment was an important factor in designing the new compressor house in order to meet our own environmental goals.
The impact of the 'energy-tax' (the CCL) and the Eur! opean Unions Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) were also factors in our choice to integrate energy efficient equipment that would assist us in reducing our energy consumption.
Boge demonstrated their energy competency to us and suggested a number of energy efficient solutions when designing our compressed air system." Boge SF series frequency controlled screw compressors work strictly in accordance with the compressed air demand by producing the exact volume of compressed air at the pressure required.
Frequency control minimises idling time and evens out air demand fluctuations.
The Boge MCS Pro Plus energy management system controls the installation and ensures that only the most efficient supply of compressed air is used at all times.
Moreover the MCS Pro Plus audits the system on an on-going basis to calculate air usage and electricity usage.
It also maintains a constant system pressure to within 0.3 bar of the required system pressure. Request a free brochure from Boge Compressors ...
