Bookham, provider of optical components, modules and subsystems, appointed Pierre Champert, who has a Physics PhD, as Technical Sales Manager of its high power laser diode business unit.

Bookham, a leading provider of optical components, modules and subsystems, has announced the appointment of Pierre Champert as Technical Sales Manager of its high power laser diode business unit Dr Champert's appointment will advance business growth across Europe, with a particular focus on France, and will further strengthen support and service to customers in this region

"We have had tremendous success around the world with our high power laser diodes, which are recognised for their power and reliability," said Gunnar Stolze, European Sales Director of Industrial Products at Bookham.

"Europe is particularly important to us as a diverse and advanced industrial market, with a wealth of industries, from automotive to biomedical, using state-of-the-art photonics to maintain their leading edge.

"With over 10 years' experience in solid state and fibre laser technologies, Pierre will prove invaluable in continuing our success.

His appointment is a sign of the continued investment we are making in commercial, manufacturing and engineering functions to address the needs of the high power laser diode market." Originally developed for use in telecommunications networks, Bookham has directed significant effort into adapting and diversifying its high power laser diodes to a number of markets and applications, including industrial, medical, display, analytical, printing, aerospace and defense.

"Bookham is renowned for its innovation and reliability in the high power laser diode market," said Dr Champert.

"Established almost 20 years ago, the facility in Zurich has made many breakthroughs in the industrial laser market and continues to push back the boundaries of laser technology today.

I am very pleased to be joining such an experienced team and look forward to strengthening the company's position in Europe even further." Before joining Bookham, Dr Champert contributed to Keopsys SA's business development in Europe.

He holds a degree in Physics from the University of Paris-Orsay and a PhD in Physics from Imperial College London.
