The British Standards Institution is about to publish PP 7722:2006 'Designing safe machinery: Guidance for higher education to the standards and regulations' and includes a CD.

The British Standards Institution (BSI) is about to publish PP 7722:2006 'Designing safe machinery: Guidance for higher education to the standards and regulations'.

PP 7722:2006 includes a book and CD with material relevant for higher education engineering students on current standards, regulations, and guidance for producing a comprehensive risk assessment for a machine and has been structured to be delivered as a course.

If the course is delivered in its entirety, students will have a thorough understanding of all the hazards associated with machinery, and the principles of machinery risk assessment.

They will gain practical experience of designing machine guards, selecting interlocking devices, designing access steps and ladders and of producing the documentation necessary to comply with the EC Machinery Directive.

A working knowledge of the Machinery Directive 98/37/EC enacted in the UK as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 1992.

An understanding of the process of machinery risk assessment.

Familiarity with the key standards in the Safety of Machinery series.

A thorough understanding of the range of hazards posed by machines.

The ability to design a set of guards for a machine.

The ability to design a set of access steps for a machine.

The ability to complete a comprehensive risk assessment for a machine.

The ability to compile a technical file for a machine.

The ability to design safe machinery.
