Pitch controlled tapping head has long
stroke
A pitch controlled tapping head - with a longer stroke - is ideal for use on transfer lines or integration into special purpose machines of all types and configurations.
The Somex range of automation equipment, available from J S Bruce Engineering, has now been extended to include a new pitch controlled tapping head Designated as the Max 28TE, the unit complements an extensive and highly successful range of machining units, and is ideal for use on transfer lines or integration into special purpose machines of all types and configurations

Machining units made to high standards
Machining units and components for special purpose machines of exacting standards, can achieve high levels of automation in drilling, tapping, milling and grinding operations.
The objective was to introduce a mid to large capacity tapping head with a longer stroke capability than existing units, while also offering the capability for larger diameter tapping.
This fits between established tapping units Max 20TE and Max 48T products, but is based upon the well proven and reliable M28F drilling head which has an adjustable stroke up to 200mm in length.
The new Max 28TE tapping head sets new machining standards and has been designed to be highly flexible in application, with a 120Nm torque capability.
It can accommodate tapping applications of M24 x 3mm or M48 x 2mm in 600N/mm2 steel.
The standard thread pitch range is 0.5 to 3mm, with other pitches available on request.
The unit can be fitted with three-phase AC motors up to 5.5kW (50Hz), with geared motor options also available to provide the lower spindle speeds required for larger thread diameter tapping operations.
Motors can be front or rear mounted, with 4 x 90 deg positioning for maximum versatility.
Exceptional build rigidity is also provided which keeps concentricity to a level of 0.01mm maximum, with interchangeable push-on pulleys enabling variable spindle-speed combinations.
The exceptional rigidity of these units makes them ideally suited for the mounting of multi-spindle tapping heads.
Available with through tool coolant option and pre-equipped for automatic lubrication.
The Max 28TE is available now and comes with a one year warranty as standard.
