DDA compliance can give access to new business
Lifts and platforms for industry take on a new meaning, now that Part III of the UK's Disability Discrimination Act requires those regarded as 'service providers' to offer disabled access.
The scissor lifts, which are a bespoke design and each have a 2.5 tonne capacity and measure 3.5m by 900mm, are used to transfer finished bricks from a conveyor belt to specially adapted containers, which are then transported to a storage area by forklift trucks.
Bricks are loaded onto the lifts, which slowly lower as the weight increases in order to ensure that Ibstock personnel are working at a constant height, minimising strain and the risk of injury.
Ibstock are the first brick manufacturer to use scissor lifts in this way.

"Britannia's engineers are very professional and contact us whenever the lifts are due for a service." Britannia Lift technical director, John Patey, commented.
