Special purpose glass fusion machine welds electrodes on to inert gas display lamps using burners fuelled with a mixture of natural gas and oxygen.

Bespoke Machines has manufactured a special purpose glass fusion machine for welding electrodes on to inert gas display lamps Both the electrode and the tube are heated to create hot spots in the glass

This is accomplished using burners fuelled with a mixture of natural gas and oxygen.

Compressed air is introduced to first create, and burst a bubble in each component.

The resulting trumpets from the burst bubbles are re-heated.

When the components are at their correct temperatures they brought together and then pulled apart a few millimetres to fuse and form a connecting neck through which the inert gas and electric current can pass.

Previously these lamps were assembled by skilled glass blowing operatives because it was thought that the short batches made it un-economical to automate the process.

This machine has overcome the short batch problems by automatically compensating for different sizes.

The product type is selected in the HMI (human machine interface) and the machine adjusts to the new parameters.

The resulting product is more consistent than fusing by hand and is produced in a shorter time.

Bespoke Machines is a special purpose machine manufacturer specialising in drilling and assembly machines.

Many production processes do not lend themselves to the use of standard production machines.

Unique machine designs have to be developed for a process to benefit from the advantages of automation.
