Precise heat treatment with fluidised
sand baths
Techne fluidised sand baths are being used increasingly when very precise control of heat treatment processes is required, particularly when special alloys used for applications.
Techne fluidised sand baths are being used increasingly when very precise control of heat treatment processes is required, particularly when special alloys used for applications such as medical and orthodontic implants are involved While many industrial ovens and furnaces provide temperature stability and uniformity around +/-5C, sand baths typically achieve temperature stability of +/-0.2C and temperature uniformity of +/-0.5C

The equipment also provides fast recovery times from quench and is less expensive and safer to use than salt baths.
Components are easy to clean after processing.
The Techne sand baths, manufactured by Barloworld Scientific, consist of a container filled with dry inert aluminium oxide sand which is heated by rod elements and fluidised by a stream of clean dry air, separating and suspending the particles so that they flow like a boiling liquid.
The fluidised particles distribute heat quickly and evenly throughout the bath and have very effective heat transfer characteristics.
Dust is automatically removed by a cyclone and filtration system.
The standard model is a bench-top unit with a cylindrical chamber measuring 385mm deep x 165mm diameter and a temperature range from 50C to 700C controlled by a PID instrument.
Automated processing can be achieved by linking the equipment with a computer through an RS232 interface, which provides control of multiple set points and dwell times.
Custom-built equipment can also be supplied. Request a free brochure from Barloworld Scientific ...
