The Banker Technology Awards recognise projects that have made a real difference in the finance sector and are designed to provide financial institutions and their clients around the world with an objective analysis of the technological expertise that exists within key business areas.
The winning project involved the relocation of the Bank of New York's data backup centre more than 100 kilometres away from its London offices, setting new standards for operational risk management in the financial sector.
Complex practical and logistical challenges were successfully overcome, and all the work completed within two month deadline, including the relocation of a significant number of servers and network cabinets, mainframes and mid-frame servers to the new data centre.
Raj Joshi, BT account manager, said "This project was challenging - the distance involved meant we had to push optical networking technology to its limits and the project deadlines were tight, so it is great to see it being rewarded" Graeme Ray, VP, Infrastructure, Bank of New York, said "We are proud to be alongside BT receiving this award, which recognises the innovative nature of the BT solution and the hard work of BT and the Bank of New York teams to get everything in place".
