Balluff Magnetic Line Encoders get magnet rings

A Balluff product story

Balluff's BML Magnetic Line Encoders now have formed encoded magnet rings.

Balluff BML Magnetic Linear Encoders are fast operating measuring systems with magnetically encoded linear or rotating tape used for precise positioning in high dynamic applications.

Using the BML sensor head in conjunction with the new magnet rings provides a low cost, super-rugged alternative to traditional optical rotary encoders.

In a typical application, the rotary BML system is used to convert rotary position, for example, motor shaft position into linear distance.

The non-contact sensor head accurately reads the pulses on the encoded magnet ring, providing accurate, non-contact position.

Whether ball screw, synchronous belt, or rack and pinion, BML accurately monitors linear load position independent of the specific actuator drive technology employed.

This allows machine OEMs to choose inexpensive drive solutions without sacrificing position tracking accuracy.

It is no longer necessary to use costly 'pre-load' or 'zero backlash' actuators just to improve the accuracy of the rotary encoder at the motor shaft.

The BML magnetic linear encoder is also immune to position errors caused by drive belt slippage or breakage that can affect motor shaft mounted rotary encoders.
