Specialist Birmingham wire and spark erosion company AandM EDM has gained the aerospace AS/EN9100 approval through its participation in the Burcas Supply Chain Group (SCG) Programme.

Specialist Birmingham wire and spark erosion company A and M EDM has gained the coveted aerospace AS/EN9100 approval as a direct result of its participation in the Burcas Supply Chain Group (SCG) Programme, developed and provided by TEC-Concepts, and grant-funded under the West Midlands Lift-Off Scheme A and M managing director, Mark Wingfield, explained: "We have been delighted to be part of the SCG Programme which has been designed to improve performance throughout Burcas' aerospace supply chain

One of our principal objectives for participating was to improve our existing ISO 9001:2000 quality management system to accommodate aerospace requirements, as this would enable A and M to move into aerospace in its own right." Although the Burcas SCG Programme has only been running for six months, A and M EDM has already achieved this initial objective - an accolade usually only associated with larger aerospace organizations.

In fact the final accreditation assessment uncovered only one minor problem which was easily cleared up within a matter of hours.

A and M EDM is now looking to working with TEC-Concepts to gain NADCAP accreditation for its special processes (non-conventional machining) in order to consolidate its position as a specialist aerospace subcontractor.
