Washington State Department of Transportation Selects Bentley To Provide Transportation Design Software

Bentley Systems has announced that the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has selected Bentley as its primary provider of software for engineering and surveying practices WSDOT selected Bentley InRoads software to replace CAiCE as its primary transportation engineering software based on a statewide steering committee review

Integration and interoperability were key factors in choosing the new design platform.

"WSDOT is a long-time user of MicroStation and we wanted an integrated design and drafting solution, so the move to InRoads is really a natural progression that maximises our investment in, and knowledge of, MicroStation," said Jon Bauer, computer-aided engineering manager, WSDOT.

"We were confident InRoads would meet our needs because it is widely used in the industry - by other DOTs and many large consultants." "Additional factors in our decision to move to InRoads," continued Bauer, "are Bentley's excellent track record of maintaining compatibility of legacy data as it introduces new technology and software, as well as its industry experience working with DOTs." WSDOT's individual regions will make a gradual transition from CAiCE to InRoads, with the goal being to start all new projects in InRoads.

Once WSDOT completes its transition to InRoads, it is anticipated there will be 150 to 200 concurrent users of the software statewide.

WSDOT has also opted to join the Bentley Enterprise License Subscription (ELS) program.

"The ELS provides a cost-effective way for the DOT to manage its use of Bentley software and the transition to InRoads," said Bauer.
