Brisbane water selects Bentley's WaterGEMS V8 XM edition for modeling speed, ease of use, and fire flow analysis

Bentley Systems has announced that Brisbane Water, one of the largest water utilities in Australia, has selected WaterGEMS V8 XM Edition, Bentley's water distribution modeling solution, to manage the municipality's complex water network The network serves a population of approximately one million

WaterGEMS V8 XM, which won the 2006 AWWA People's Choice Award for best new product, was chosen by Brisbane Water after an extensive selection process that evaluated several competing systems.

Key criteria included overall power, modeling speed, ease of use, model management, and fire flow analysis capabilities.

Commenting on the utility's decision to adopt WaterGEMS V8 XM, Ben Wilson, water and sewerage strategic planner for Brisbane Water, said, "We will achieve significant cost savings from centralised model management".

"WaterGEMS' new framework will increase the speed of our network simulations, and the software's highly user-friendly interface will significantly flatten the learning curve for our modelers, allowing them and their administrators to focus on their core activities".

WaterGEMS V8 XM features a data-centric framework, which means utilities can exploit the benefits of ArcGIS integration without sacrificing interoperability with the AutoCAD, MicroStation, and stand-alone platforms.

It also provides a new stand-alone interface that allows utilities to customise its work environment with dockable dialogs, and to take advantage of extended background image support, powerful thematic mapping features, and bidirectional copy/paste from external applications.

The engineers at Brisbane Water also gave WaterGEMS V8 XM high marks for its ability to effectively and efficiently determine water availability for fire fighting.

As Ben Wilson explained, "Fire flow investigations are traditionally one of the most labour-intensive types of water modeling analysis".

"WaterGEMS' Fire Flow Navigator is a powerful new feature that attracted us to the product, as it significantly reduces these overheads".

"In a single fire flow simulation run, WaterGEMS allowed our engineers to immediately determine not just where, but also why the water network had failed to meet the desired standards of service".

With the new Fire Flow Navigator, there is no longer a need to conduct separate time-consuming investigative model runs for each failure area.

This feature advances water modeling standards with systemwide fire flow analyses, enabling the modelers to navigate the entire network to evaluate flows, velocities, and pressures for every element in the specified fire event. Request a free brochure from Bentley Systems ...
