Innovative driven tooling runs up to 6000 rev/min
An innovative range of driven tooling, operating at up to 6000 rev/min and demonstrated for the first time at MACH 2002 are suitable for the Yamazaki-Mazak lathes and are supplied ex stock.
The contract has been renewed for the second time because of Craftsman's ability to work hand-in-hand with Sulzer to provide what it needs, when it needs it.
The company has supplied Sulzer for almost six years with pump components which include machined wear rings, sleeves and other cylindrical components in ferrous and non ferrous materials.
Craftsman are responsible for all material procurement, stocking, part certification and material standards as well as work scheduling and quality control.
Orders are placed weekly and the workload agreed monthly, but the companies work closely together to control any sudden changes to the planned schedule.
With the capability of three shifts seven days per week, Craftsman guarantee a minimum number of machine hours are available for Sulzer to call upon, and during the partnership between the companies, Craftsman have continually invested in both additional and upgraded machining capacity in order to provide parts of the required high quality and meet a demanding delivery schedule.
Sulzer benefit from a single source of supply with easy order placement, a known hourly rate, guaranteed capacity and a lower cost than its previous method of working.
The contract has also enabled the company to change its approach to inspection of bought-out items.
The goods inwards process recognises deliveries from Craftsman and these are released directly into production with only random sample checks rather than full inspection, as was the case with the previous working practices.
This reduces inspection times, provides quicker entry into production and faster computer transactions.
Sulzer commented "Our decision to expand out sourcing with Craftsman Tools rested on a variety of factors.
They had performed well in the initial contract, their production facilities are well equipped and supported by strong design, production planning and material procurement functions.
They met our overall requirements so represent the best overall value for money.
