UK businesses are being given the chance to prove how well managed they are by entering a major new business award.

UK businesses are being given the chance to prove how well managed they are by entering a major new business award.

The Institute of Directors in association with Cranfield School of Management will be selecting the nation's best-managed company over the next 12 months.

Businesses are being invited to complete a special investigative survey developed by Cranfield that will assess just how well British companies are run.

All companies that complete an entry will receive a benchmarking report that will show the performance of the company in comparison with others in their business sector.

The data will also be used to compare businesses both within geographic regions and nation-wide.

The top performing businesses will be contacted by the panel of judges to arrange an assessment visit.

Those short-listed will then be invited to the award ceremony in London.

The IoD's Director General, George Cox, said: "Cranfield's novel approach should provide a fascinating insight into how companies compare.

Anything that provides new analysis and stimulates better performance by UK companies is to be welcomed." Mike Sweeney, Professor of Operations Management at Cranfield, said: "Cranfield and the IoD have developed the Best Managed Companies Award scheme to recognise and to publicise corporate management excellence within the United Kingdom.

"This is an opportunity for companies of all types to participate in an important award scheme which will enable them to benchmark their business management achievements against the best within their industry sector and nationally.".
