Lean manufacturing fellowship offered to SMEs
Cranfield University has won a GBP 226,000 contract to offer a Fellowship in lean manufacturing to employees from SMEs in the South East of England.
John Beckett, former chairman of Genus -the global agricultural consultancy, has initiated the scholarship scheme in recognition of the urgent need for the farming industry to equip itself with management skills and knowledge.
"The sector is technically and scientifically excellent but it lacks a culture of pure business management.
We are an industry with vision but with no strategy and I want the scholarships to produce future sector and industry leaders", said John Beckett.
"The agricultural scholarship will not be for a specialist farming MBA", says Sean Rickard of Cranfield School of Management.
"At Cranfield we do not offer any specialist MBAs, believing that the skills and knowledge that our students develop on the Cranfield MBA can be applied to any sector in any country worldwide." The scholarship is worth £26K and will cover the cost of the fees for the full time MBA.
Applications for the scholarships are invited now for the September 2005/6 intake.
