The Cranfield Trust offers free management consultancy advice to charities throughout the UK, the value of which is put at £1.4million to the voluntary sector each year.

A team of 85 runners raised £20,000 for The Cranfield Trust by running in the British 10K London Run on Sunday (July 3) The Cranfield Trust offers free management consultancy advice to charities throughout the UK, the value of which is put at £1.4million to the voluntary sector each year

The team of sponsored runners was made up of a large number of Cranfield School of Management MBA students, alumni, staff and faculty members.

Trustees and volunteers of The Cranfield Trust also took part in the run.

Amanda Tincknell, Chief Executive of the Trust said: "It was a great day and fantastic to see the blue Trust T-shirts scattered through the field of 19,400 runners in the race".

"It was brilliant to have such excellent support from our runners, their sponsors and everyone who helped us make it a fun day".

""On a serious note, the £20,000 raised for the Trust will enable us to support a further 20 charities with management help.

This has been a difficult year for UK charities and we are experiencing higher demand than ever for management support as charities struggle to provide their vital services with tight funding and growing demand." The Cranfield Trust is an independent national charity with close links to Cranfield School of Management".

"It provides free consultancy to small and medium sized charities across the UK in a variety of management areas using a register of 600 volunteers from the commercial sector, all of whom hold professional qualifications such as MBAs, many of them Cranfield MBAs".

"Projects with client charities typically take five to 15 days of a volunteer's time, spread over several months, and Trust volunteers carry out around 150 projects each year".

"Recent success stories include a project to help Victim Support Wales whose manager, Ruth Holgate, said the Trust's support had had a very positive impact on the organisation: "The work of the Trust is especially valuable to us as we are increasingly called upon to deliver services on behalf of the statutory sector, but core funding rarely provides specific resources to develop the skills of managers to help them meet these new challenges".

""The actual work undertaken with the consultant was interesting, inspiring and above all relevant to our development as an organisation".

"It was described as 'overwhelmingly successful' by all seven managers who participated in the workshop." Grahame Atkins, Service Manager with Headway, South Beds, said the Cranfield Trust's volunteer had helped his group plan for the future: "The volunteer had an excellent insight into the issues involved and his input was invaluable".

"The plan will support fundraising for our expansion programme for the next three years".

"The Board of trustees considered the volunteer and the Trust provided an excellent service." After completing the 10K run the team and their supporters were treated to a picnic in St James's Park.

The team picnic was donated by the Cranfield Management Development Centre and liquid refreshment was donated by Cobra Beer, whose founder Karan Billimoria is a past participant on Cranfield school of Management's Business Growth and Development Programme.

Tina Baker, fundraiser for The Cranfield Trust said: "Following on from the success of the team effort this year, the Trust is hoping to have a team of 100 sponsored runners for next year".

"Runners can now sign up with us for next year's 10K run on July 9, 2006, and we would also welcome corporate support for The Cranfield Trust 10K Team.".
