Dr Richard Wilding has been appointed as Chair in Supply Chain Risk Management by Cranfield School of Management.

Dr Richard Wilding has been appointed as Chair in Supply Chain Risk Management by Cranfield School of Management Recent events, for example, 9/11, the foot and mouth outbreak and hurricane Katrina have all impacted on organisations and the global supply chains they are part of

As a result Cranfield School of Management has launched a Supply Chain Risk Forum supported by sponsoring companies, organisations and the Ministry of Defence.

The focus of this Forum's activity is applied research into in all forms of Supply Chain Risk, with a view to providing practicing managers and policy makers with the tools and concepts necessary to enable them to improve Supply Chain Resilience in the face of these events.

Professor Martin Christopher, Chairman of the Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Cranfield says, "Trends including the rapid growth in global sourcing and offshore manufacturing; the continued move to reduce the supplier base; industry consolidation and the centralisation of distribution all change the risk profile of supply chains and businesses.

Supply Chain Risk Management is now a priority on many CEOs' agendas.

Cranfield is well placed to support industry through our research, and Professor Wilding's appointment will further strengthen our team".

Dr Richard Wilding's track record in supply chain risk management goes back many years His Doctoral research, applied chaos and complexity science to logistics and supply chain management and resulted in the development of new management guidelines for supply chain re-engineering to mitigate risk.

This innovative research received international media coverage including features on the BBC World Service, the Times, Financial Times and New Scientist.

More recently his research into inventory policies of organisations in times of uncertainty resulted in further international media coverage including live interviews on BBC1 television news, BBC News 24, BBC Television's "The Money Programme", BBC 5 live and Independent Radio News, the Financial Times, Sunday Times, The Guardian, and The Independent newspapers.
