The Cranfield School of Management's team of London Marathon runners completed the event on Sunday April 22nd, and had to walk an extra 4.5 miles to reach the starting line.

Cranfield School of Management's team of London Marathon runners is well on the way to hitting its GBP30,000 fundraising target after completing the event on Sunday (April 22) AND covering an extra 4.5miles - just to reach the starting line.

A breakdown on the Docklands Light Railway left thousands of runners and spectators stranded and the 13 Cranfield MBA students were among those who had to walk for an hour to the start line, carrying their costume with them.

The Sausage Dog costume was provided by Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, the runners' main recipient charity, nominated by MBA runner Steve Allum who is himself profoundly deaf.

After the event Steve said: "All 13 of us ran together for the entire 26.2 miles, swapping in and out of the costume every two miles to make it a real team effort.

"We got great support from the crowd and other runners all the way round when they saw the costume coming, and our army of supporters of both family and friends from Cranfield were there to cheer us on and deliver essential high energy foods at strategic points." The Cranfield Sausage Dog crossed the line in 5 hours 28 minutes and 13 seconds, am amazing result as it was the hottest London Marathon on record with more than 5,000 people being treated by the St John Ambulance Brigade.

The team's sponsor money will be split between three other charities, proportionate to the number of runners nominating each one.

The others are the Brain and Spine Foundation, the Brain Research Trust, and the National Autistic Society.
