Based on a fixed table machining centre with a travelling column, a VMC incorporates a 5-axis spindle head for full 5-sided machining and is available in three X-axis sizes.

The new FTV5 range made its European-debut at EMO 2005 Based on the Fixed Table (FTV) machining centre with a travelling column, the FTV5-1800 incorporates a 5-axis spindle head for full 5-sided machining

It is available in three X-axis range designations - 1800, 2500 and 3700mm, making it the ideal choice for aerospace, precision machining and die and mould applications.

The FTV5-1800 was presented at EMO with the Heidenhain iTNC 530 CNC control and will demonstrate machining a variety of materials from aluminium to hard steels, in 3-, 4- and full, simultaneous 5-axis modes.

The fixed table and extensive working envelope with Y-axis range up to 1005mm can incorporate heavy loads up to 10,000kg, ideal for machining heavy dies and large aerospace parts.

The spindle utilises the HSK-63A standard tool interface and the spindle drive provides a speed range up to 18,000 rev/min and delivers 27kW S6 duty-rated power from 2,000 rev/min.

The 5-axis spindle possesses capabilities of up to +/-95 deg tilt in the A-axis and full 360 deg contouring in the C-axis.

A sturdy cast iron carrier surrounds the high-precision 5-axis head to provide excellent rigidity and cutting stability.

Precision motorised spindle and direct drive low maintenance brushless torque motors deliver exceptional levels of performance in terms of high-torque and speed of operation, with swivel torque up to 1,300Nm and swivel speed up to 360 deg/s.

5-axis simultaneous interpolation also enables set-ups to be minimised through 'one-hit' machining, therefore maximising parts production and spindle usage.

The 1005mm Y-axis range and table width enables wider parts or multiple set-ups to be machined, further increasing the versatility of the FTV5.

Base mounted toolchangers located at the ends of the table provide up to 42 tools storage and are housed in a high visibility loading station with operator access at the sides of the machine, keeping the tools free from swarf and coolant.

The toolchanger provides the capacity to store sufficient tools for complex jobs, multiple sets for a variety of work or redundant tooling for heavily used tools.

The FTV5 is supplied as standard with a choice of controls from leading manufacturers Heidenhain and Siemens, mounted into an ergonomically designed mobile unit.

It can be positioned at any point in front of the machine, ensuring the control is at hand during set-up.

The FTV5 range is provided as standard with Heidenhain glass linear scales in the X, Y and Z axes to ensure accuracy is maintained.

With operator safety a priority, the FTV5 is fitted as standard with enhanced guarding in accordance with European Standards.

The FTV5 range of 5-axis fixed table vertical machining centres are designed, manufactured and assembled at Cincinnati Lamb facility in Birmingham, UK.
