Incorporating 5-axis integrated rotary table technology, a vertical machining centre will be demonstrating its full 5-axis, 5-sided large capacity machining capability.

At the UK's MACH 2008 this month, the MAG Industrial Automation Systems 400m2 stand will show CNC machine tools from MAG Cincinnati and sister companies MAG Fadal, MAG Huller Hille and MAG Boehringer Visitors can view machine tools and see live demonstrations for all conceivable manufacturing requirements including aerospace, automotive and mould and die applications

MAG Cincinnati will be demonstrating its market leading CFV 5Si 5-axis vertical machining centre (VMC) and its FTV 840-2500 fixed table, travelling column VMC.

* 5-axis machining - the CFV 5Si VMC has a 5-axis integrated rotary table and spindle speeds up to 20,000 rev/min.

The VMC can produce components up to 400mm in diameter and 300mm high and has a table tilt capability up to 150 deg.

With a dedicated table, the CFV 5Si delivers full five-axis, 5-sided large capacity machining capability.

MAG Cincinnati will demonstrate the CFV 5 machining an aluminium Impellor blade commonly manufactured in the aerospace industry.

The CFV 5 at MACH will be demonstrated with the latest Fanuc 18i control and HSK63 spindle.

* heavy duty CNC milling - the larger three axis MAG Cincinnati FTV 840-2500, based on the Fixed Table (FTV) machining centre concept with a travelling column, will be demonstrating heavy duty milling demonstrations on steel.

The FTV will be highlighting its X-, Y- and Z-axis travel of 2540mm, 815mm and 800mm respectively by carrying out multiple machining set-ups to highlight the productivity benefits that can be realised from multiple part machining.

The highly rigid and productive FTV 840-2500 operates with a 40 series spindle taper, standard 8000 rev/min spindle and the Heidenhain 530 CNC.

* More VMCs - additional vertical machining centres providing demonstrations at MACH 2008 will include the MAG Fadal VMC 3016FX and VMC 4020FX.

Both machines are equipped with an automatic tool changer (ATC) capacity of 21 tools, spindle speed of 10-8,000 rev/min and a 40 spindle taper as standard.

There is a choice of Fanuc 0i or Fanuc 18i CNCs.

At MACH 2008, both machines will highlight the capabilities and user friendliness of the Fanuc 0i control.

* Mould and die machining - the VMC 4020FX will be machining a steel mould and die at the show to demonstrate the rigidity and high quality surface finishes when machining difficult materials.

The VMC 3016FX will be reinforcing this quality with heavy steel removal caried out at speed.

This will not only show visitors to the stand the rigidity and productivity of the VMCs but also the high level of accuracy with a positional accuracy of +/-0.005mm and axis repeatability of +/-0.0025mm as standard.

* Horizontal machining centres - to meet the needs of manufacturers looking for horizontal machining centres (HMC) the MAG stand will also show for the first time the MAG Huller Hille nbh 5+ HMC.

This extremely rigid machine is constructed of a heavily ribbed, one piece casting with high clamping characteristics.

Combining this with a 360 deg rotary loading station and four 90 deg indexing positions with optional hydraulic clamping, the MAG Huller Hille nbh 5+ makes an ideal partner for productivity, said the company.

* Turn/grind centres - MAG Boehringer will be showcasing its expertise with its exciting range of horizontal turning centres with the HTC 200M and NDM 200-4HG machines appearing on the MACH 2008 stand.

The NDM 200-4HG turning centre will be conducting hard turning and dry grinding of a 2.6kg drive pinion with an 100mm diameter and 200mm length.

Whilst the single spindle 12 tool station HTC 200M will be cutting an aluminium example that will highlight its capability to utilise driven tooling to its maximum potential.

Static displays at MACH 2008 will include products available from MAG Cincinnati Advanced Technologies whilst MAG Maintenance Technologies will be giving visitors to the stand an opportunity to review the service packages available to users of all machine types.

* About MAG Cincinnati - MAG Industrial Automation Systems, which was founded in 2005, is now positioned within the leading global machine tool builders.

With 4300 employees it achieved a turnover of circa US$ 1,5 billion during 2006.

MAG consists of four groups, as follows.

1 - MAG Powertrain (Cross Hueller, Ex-Cell-O and Lamb) supplies agile manufacturing systems and transfer lines mainly to the automotive industry.

2 - MAG Advanced Technologies (MAG Cincinnati Automation, MAG Cincinnati Machine, MAG Fadal, MAG Giddings and Lewis, and MAG Hueller Hille) develops machines for high performance cutting, automation and composite systems for the aerospace and power generation industries.

MAG Advanced Technologies delivers heavy duty vertical turning centers and machining centers.
