Aveva wins information management contract for world-class petrochemicals project in China

AVEVA (LSE:AVV), the engineering software and services company formerly known as CADcentre, has won a contract to supply the CSPC Nanhai Petrochemicals Project with an asset data facility Based on AVEVA's VNET technology, it will be implemented as an integrated plant information portal supporting construction, commissioning, engineering handover and plant operations

CNOOC and Shell Petrochemicals Company Limited (CSPC) is a joint venture between Shell Nanhai BV, a member of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies, and CNOOC Petrochemical Investment Limited (CPIL).

The joint venture will build, own and operate this US$4.3 billion complex - the largest Sino-foreign investment to date.

The project is scheduled to start production in late 2005.

CSPC has appointed BSF China Company Ltd., a consortium of Bechtel Petroleum and Chemical of the US, Sinopec Engineering (SEI) of China, and Foster Wheeler Energy Limited of the UK, as the project management contractor (PMC) by CSPC for the implementation phase of the Nanhai Project.

The consortium will work with AVEVA to achieve the aims and objectives set out for the plant information portal.

A key factor has been the maintenance of a coherent, accurate plant information model.

It is intended that the project should exploit the full value of a 'digital plant' during handover into plant operations.

AVEVA, through VNET, was able to demonstrate the desired functionality with a secure future development roadmap.

CSPC's principal visionary for the data project, MAC EPC Manager Johan Veerman, commented on the decision: "Controlling and giving accessibility to all plant information for a project of this scale cannot be done with a conventional records systems.

We needed a digital system that was fast and easy to use for the whole plant stakeholder community - one that could grow as needed to encompass the expanding level of asset details over time.

AVEVA demonstrated that its VNET technology was a sound basis for us to achieve just that." BSF will be working closely with AVEVA to achieve the goals of the project and deliver the benefits to the wider project community.

BSF Asset Information Manager Victor Wilkie commented: "A reliable and comprehensive plant model carries a huge value in both economic and risk-reduction terms.

That remains a fundamental requirement, especially with the range of separate, specialist, engineering disciplines that are working on the project.

Finally, we sought a 'point-and-click', graphical functionality that linked the various intelligent graphical models, layouts, databases and other repositories while maintaining accessibility to all stakeholders and information consumers.".
