Users choose CNCs and spindle drives for
VMCs

Illustrating how vertical machining centres can be customised, models can be equipped with Fanuc OiMB, Siemens 810D or Heidenhain iTNC530 and also offer choice of spindle specifications.

Key to the success of the Dugard Eagle range of vertical machining centres is the way the machines can be selected with different specifications that enable customers to tailor the machines to their production requirements For instance, on the C Dugard stand 5237 at MACH 2006, three Dugard Eagle vertical machining centres will be installed to depict the range with the Eagle 600 controlled via Fanuc OiMB, the Eagle 660 by Siemens 810D and the larger Eagle 1000 by Heidenhain iTNC530

All three machines have the common Dugard specified carcase construction featuring heavy duty cast iron with substantial ribbing for the column and base to maximise rigidity and minimise vibration under heavy duty milling conditions.

The Dugard Eagle 1000 has a table size of 1000mm by 510mm with load capacity of 600kg.

The X-axis travel is 1020mm with 530mm in Y and 510mm in the Z axis that can be covered at rapid traverse rates of 30m/min in X and Y and 24m/min in Z.

Customers can also select counterbalanced spindles fitted from Fanuc with 15kW, 8,000 rev/min, Siemens with 13kW, 8,000 rev/min or further options of 10,000 rev/min or 12,000 rev/min types complete with refrigeration.

Through tool coolant is also available.

Each spindle can be served by a 20 station carousel or 24 or 32 tool magazines.

The mid-range Dugard Eagle 660 also has multiple variants of spindle with BT40, CT40 or DIN40 taper with the standard unit being an 11kW belt-driven 8,000 rev/min unit.

Further options include 10,000 rev/min or 12,000 rev/min with a 7.5kW drive, 12,000 and an 11kW, 15,000 rev/min direct drive system.

There is also a ZF gearbox version of the 8,000 rev/min standard unit.

A 20 position tool carousel is standard with options of a side-arm system, 24 station twin-arm changer or 32 station chain-type unit.

Controls available in addition to the Siemens 810D with ShopMill software as demonstrated at MACH 2006 include, Heidenhain TNC 410M or iTNC530, Fanuc OiMT-A with data server or Fanuc 18iMB.

Axis travels are 660mm in X, 520mm in Y and 510mm in Z with rapid traverse rates of 30m/min in X and Y and 24m/min in Z.

Linear scale positioning is also available.

All models are pre-wired to accept a fourth axis option.

On a compact footprint of 2.1m by 1.9m the Dugard Eagle 600 offers a choice of 8,000 or 10,000 rev/min spindles with 7.5kW or 9.2kW drive, a 16 station BT40/CAT40 taper tool carousel or 16 station twin-arm changer.

Table size is 760mm by 360mm with X, Y and Z-axis travels of 625mm by 355mm by 520mm.

Control options include Siemens 802D or 810D with ShopMill or the Fanuc OiMB as demonstrated.
