Vertical machining centres bring record
orders
UK machine tool distributor, C Dugard, reported orders of over GBP 5 million for Hedelius vertical machining centres and Edel 5-axis, gantry-type milling machines.
Reflecting the shift by aerospace contractors and certain toolmaking companies towards the advantages gained by five-axis simultaneous machining technology, C Dugard of Hove closed 2006 with 19 orders worth more than GBP 5 million, 15 for Hedelius Kombi vertical machining centres and four Edel machines with working envelopes of 5m by 3m by 1.1m Said Joe Hamilton product manager: "2006 has been a record year for Hedelius in the UK with so many machines ordered - but most surprising is that half the orders have been for Kombi machines that give higher productivity by combining three or four-axis and separate five-axis positioning on the same bed." Part of the table area of the Hedelius RS Kombi semi-portal, moving column machine is flat but also able to take indexing, rotary or compound tables that complement the trunnion unit mounted further along the same bed

Wide range of CNC machines will suit all tastes
High speed lathes, as well as vertical and horizontal machining centres, to suit all tastes, will be exhibited at Mach 2002 by C Dugard.
This arrangement enables the initial datum face of the part to be machined on one side, it can then be relocated in the trunnion unit for the remaining five faces to be worked on.
The adoption of pendulum production in this manner, with simultaneous loading and machining, can improve productivity by at least 40%.
The Hedelius Kombi machines are available with table sizes up to 4.5m, spindle powers up to 55kW and speeds up to 24,000 rev/min.
Meanwhile, the Edel range of gantry-style 5-axis milling machines are available with table sizes working envelopes from 4m by 2m to 8m by 4m by 1160mm in the vertical Z-axis.
The five-axis head can be powered by up to 21kW motors with a 48 tool magazine and choice of Heidenhain i TNC 530 or Siemens 840D control systems.
One of the strong selling points of the Edel range is the high specification, superior performance and flexibility given by the five-axis milling spindle for prices that start below GBP 400,000. Request free introductory details about products from C Dugard ...
