Mill-turn centre capabilities increased

A multi-tasking, mill-turn centre offers high power in a heavy duty single cast bed construction with rigid box guideways and a rigid B-axis milling head.

The Hyundai Kia high productivity mill/turn centre combines high power in a heavy duty single cast bed construction with rigid box guideways and a rigid B-axis milling head The SKT 2500 MT Multi-Tasking Centre's milling head also accepts normal lathe tooling and is supported by a 22 tool magazine

There are options of 43 or 65 pockets for servicing long complex combined feature turning, milling, drilling and other cycles requiring large numbers of tools or the support of sister tool replacement.

The SKT 2500 MT Multi-Tasking Centre's 18.5kW, 8,000 rev/min, high-torque B-axis milling head also has the option of a 12,000 rev/min and the added flexibility of a 250mm Y-axis crossfeed stroke.

The machine has a bar capacity of 76mm, a 10in chuck size and options of programmable tailstock or full subspindle for combined 'one-hit' machining cycles.

A built-in 30kW, 4,000 rev/min drive powers main spindle with C-axis and the machine has a maximum turning diameter of 500mm by 1100mm turning length.

The swing over the bed is 780mm diameter.

With the C-axis sub-spindle option, a 'kissing spindle' design enables synchronised part exchange at 30m/min rapid traverse.

If the optional, fully programmable 110mm diameter quill tailstock is specified, automatic clamp and unclamp is incorporated.

Central to the machine flexibility, said C Dugard to manufacturingtalk.com, is the B-axis milling head that has +120 deg rotation with 0.001 deg indexing through a heavy duty, dual-lead worm gear and servo motor.

The head has the added advantage of 250mm Y-axis stroke for off-centre feature machining and a Z-axis stroke of 1100mm in order to service the main and sub-spindles.

The milling head slide also carries the tool magazine providing a tool change time of just 1.5s and chip-to-chip time of 5s.

The maximum tool size is 95mm diameter which can be extended to 104mm when adjacent pockets are empty.

Controlled by Fanuc 18i-TB, the machine is integrated with a Q-Setter tool offset device or as an option, with the fully automated Auto Q-Setter.

Further options, informed C Dugard of manufacturingtalk, include a gantry loading and bar feed system and through tool coolant supply. Request a free brochure from C Dugard ...
