Ceratizit has introduced parting and grooving tooling with an innovative clamping system that allows inserts to be locked into position from either side of the blade.

Ceratizit has introduced parting and grooving tooling offers machine tool users a much simplified operating procedure that ensures precise insert location and simplifies the setting process The MSS-SX parting and grooving tooling features an innovative clamping system that allows inserts to be locked into position, using the supplied tool, from either side of the blade, making it suitable for a variety of machine tool configurations

This tool is located in the two location points and is used, initially, to open the insert seat prior to the insert being positioned.

The reverse movement of the tool then causes the seat to clamp the insert precisely and securely.

In designing the insert pocket for the MSS-SX system, Ceratizit used finite element analysis to ensure that an optimum insert seat and clamping system was realised.

The result is a guarantee of perfect insert seating every time, said Ceratizit to manufacturingtalk.

The MSS-SX gives consistent positioning of the insert to eliminate time-consuming adjustments after an insert is changed.

The retaining system ensures good insert security under the most arduous of cutting conditions, said the company.

The MSS-SX system parting and grooving system provides functionality and handling but with maximum stability under cutting conditions.

This functionality is enhanced by the addition of laser-etched scaling applied to the cutter blade, which makes adjusting of the cut length simple and accurate.

"This visual and indelible mark provides an easy reference for the user," said Vince Kelly, Ceratizit's managing director.

"While the use of the blade toolholder system significantly increases the application range of the MSS-SX, without losing any efficiency, strength or precision.".
