A single-key access safety switch, which is suitable for use on hinged and sliding doors, can be used to switch off a machine via its control circuitry and initialise an alert signal.

Castell has designed a single-key access safety switch which is suitable for use on hinged and sliding doors The Hercules 4 can be used to switch off a machine via its control circuitry and initialise an alert signal to sounders and visual beacons

The switch is sealed to IP65 and provides 1 normally-open (N/O) and 2 normally-closed (N/C) contacts, allowing it to be incorporated into cross-monitored safety systems.

The interlock is available in either a light-duty version intended for aluminium guarding, or a more durable stainless steel variety which is particularly suited to use in harsh or corrosive environments.

It is typically found in the food, chemical, pharmaceutical, steel, and quarrying and aggregates industries.

Under normal operating conditions the key sits in the lock while the sidebolt is trapped.

Removing the key from the Hercules 4 simultaneously isolates the electrical supply and enables the sidebolt to be removed, thereby granting rapid access to machinery as soon as the electrical supply has been switched into a safe condition.

The operator retains the key to avoid being accidentally locked inside the perimeter guarding while gaining access to the relevant machine.

To enhance the protection offered by the Hercules 4, Castell has developed the Gatesafe emergency exit device.

Fitted to door frames and capable of operating in conjunction with all existing Castell access locks, the Gatesafe provides a quick and simple method of escape for any personnel accidentally left inside a machine's perimeter guarding.

Depressing the Gatesafe's emergency stop button both isolates the supply voltage and grants emergency exit from the area.

The device's N/O contact can be connected to an alarm system for emergency signalling, drawing attention to the machine.

Before the machine can be restarted, both the E-stop button and the coded bolt need to be reset.
