Nestle Water and Crown have completed a year's project to redesign the closure for Nestle's five-litre PET bottle.
"We want to show package designers the full range of possibilities available to them before they begin to conceptualise a package.
Having this knowledge gives designers the freedom to create packages that are truly innovative and more supportive to the goal of distinguishing brands.
It also encourages early interaction between packaging suppliers and designers, ensuring faster product development for our mutual customers," said Dr Daniel Abramowicz, the president of Crown Packaging Technology.
Crown said that three dozen of Europes most accomplished package designers attended the design day in Wantage.
The visitors met with Crown's engineers and researchers while touring a mini trade show featuring the latest in metal, polymer and composite packaging technologies.
Crown's developments in metal package shaping and decorating, aerosol dispensing and closure design were among the highlighted developments.
"This event was quite helpful because a wide variety of packaging technologies were on display and knowledgeable people were on hand to answer questions.
I have never been to an event like this before," commented Troy Davis, a designer with UK-based JKR.
Since the event, several design firms have returned to Wantage with their customers to further explore Crowns capabilities across a range of applications.
The company said it is currently considering the implementation of additional design days to feature Crowns innovations and to serve packaging professionals in other parts of the world.
