Tap Cap Puts Consumer In Control
Nestle Water and Crown have completed a year's project to redesign the closure for Nestle's five-litre PET bottle.
Manufactured for food, beverage and nutritional processes throughout Europe and the United States, the award-winning closure combines the best characteristics of metal and plastic > to offer superior barrier performance, good abuse resistance, easier opening > and brand differentiation on the retail shelf.
In contrast to ordinary plastic or metal closures, the IDEAL Closure is a unique hybrid of a plastisol-lined metal disk and a plastic band.
The metal disk forms an airtight seal against the container to guard against oxygen ingress while the consumer-friendly plastic band provides for easy opening.
The plastic band includes a perforated "drop down" section, which breaks > before the seal is broken to provide clear tamper evidence.
This eliminates the need for a secondary inner seal.
It is applicable for plastic containers > and glass, which has proven essential to processors considering a transition.
The IDEAL Closure requires less effort when removing the cap because of its 2-stage opening mechanism that separates the force required to overcome the friction between the closure threads and the container from that required to release the vacuum in the pack.
Furthermore, the decorating options > available on metal result in powerful branding flexibility on the center disk.
"These new sizes broaden the application possibilities for our customers," says Thierry Lainez, Marketing and Communication Manager for CROWN Closures > Europe.
"The IDEAL Closure safeguards product quality and is at the same time a striking presence at the retail level." The IDEAL Closure is suitable for multiple filling processes including hot fill, cold fill, dry seal, pasteurization and retort.
The closure can be made for a wide range of food beverage and nutritional applications > including sauces, jams, jellies, nuts, juices, powdered products, milk-based > beverages and milk formula.
