Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jul 13, 2007

Solid coated carbide cutters are designed for the high speed machining of hardened steels of hardness up to HRc 70 as well as cast irons.

Chiltern Tooling has introduced its Pulsar solid coated carbide cutters, which are claimed to be are ideal for the high speed machining of hardened steel up to HRc 70.

The company said that a special Pulsar physical vapour deposition (PVD) coating protects the tools against premature wear.

The Pulsar coating enables the cutters to perform excellently in dry cutting conditions and produce a superior work piece finish.

The cutters can be used on many materials, including cast iron, non-alloyed steels, alloyed steels and heat resistant steels with a hardness of 45-70 HRc.
