Cirris, global specialists in high speed cable testing, has announced the DCR 1000, a crimp resistance measuring system to measure routinely the electrical resistance of crimps on finished cables.

Cirris, global specialists in high speed cable testing, announce the DCR 1000, a revolutionary crimp resistance measuring system that presents the cable industries with a breakthrough technology to measure routinely for the first time, the electrical resistance of crimps on finished cables.

The Cirris DCR 1000 measures the resistance in micro-ohms between the crimp barrel and the emerging copper wire.

Using a patented technique of electric field detection, the quality of the crimp interface can be measured directly without invasion or destruction of the connector or insulation.

Measurement is performed in seconds and achieves accuracies better than 10% and can be repeated over and over.

Various crimp structures can be accommodated on wires from 4 to 18mm diameter and up to several metres long.

Existing test methods such as pull testing and crimp sectioning are destructive and can only infer good conductivity.

The Cirris DCR 1000 measures the final crimp resistance directly and is sensitive to contaminated or oxidised surfaces copper deficits, partial insertion and low crimp pressure.

DCR1000's test breakthrough provides powerful process monitoring tools enabling cable manufacturers to boost delivered quality by ensuring every crimp meets its resistance criteria.

Resulting data can be used to correct both material and tooling deviations.

Scrap costs fall, delivered quality increases, reputations rise.

The Cirris DCR 1000 will save money for manufacturers and increase reliability for cable end users and is aimed at aerospace, military, automotive, traction, power, and medical industries that need to know that crimp quality is fit for mission.
