Solid base on which to turn one-offs
Colchester has combined the stability of a solid base and an advanced control and software package into the Combi K-Series CNC lathe for one-off components or batch production.
The idea was to provide a central axis through the UK where customers could travel easily to see demonstrations, view the latest Colchester machines and investigate ancillary products such as Renishaw probing, Sandvik tooling and Rocol coolants, as well as being able to gain appreciation of Colchester's ColCAM software for on-machine and off-line programming.
The Colchester range spans the latest Tornado two, three and five-axis slant bed lathes, the Combi slant bed and MultiTurn flat bed combination lathes plus a wide range of manual centre lathes, most of which are now supplied with digital readouts.
According to sales director Mike Dawes: "The 600 Centre is ideal as a central hub for customers and provides excellent customer facilities.
At the centre we have based the main sales and applications team which has been progressively expanded as sales and market share have increased." The Heckmondwike centre and RK International's Technical Centre will still play key roles in the Colchester Sales coverage of the UK while factory service and spares will continue to be based at Heckmondwike.
