Laser scanning microscope is precise
The Zeiss LSM 5 DUO Laser Scanning Microscope has picked up the top prize in the coveted RandD 100 Awards, widely recognised as the 'Science Oscar'.
Latest CAD-based measuring software introduced
Latest CAD-based measuring software optimizes the measurement process and permits measurements on malleable parts such as sheet metal or plastics and makes measuring easier.
The CMM that brought Active Scanning to small and midsize manufacturers has been redesigned into two different configurations: the Contura G2 RDS and Aktiv.
Contura G2 RDS is suited to the measurement of complex features and parts with multiple angles that call for smaller styli.
It features the Zeiuss RDS articulating probe holder, capable of reaching 20,376 positions in 2.5 increments, and the Vast XXT probe for articulating scanning.

Measure surface and contour in one process
Two combination instruments are dual measuring instruments for capturing surface and contour values with a single measuring run - combining roughness sensor and large deflection range.
CMM introduces affordable scanning
Coordinate measuring machine provides a particularly affordable means of entering the world of scanning technology for production and progress inspection of single processing stages.
Vast XXT, which can be used with styli up to 250mm in length and as small as 0.3mm in diameter, uses a large deflection range and low measuring force, making it a very robust scanning sensor.
Contura G2 Aktiv is ideal for measuring deep features, as well as for self-centring and high throughput needs.
It is available with the high-performance DynaTouch (DT) sensor for active single-point measurement and with the Vast XT sensor for multi-point measurement of size, form and position.
VAST XT also offers active scanning and single-point measuring facilities, and with its high-speed, high-point density capability, is suitable for all applications in curve and free-form metrology and reverse engineering.
It can be equipped with extensions of up to 500mm, supporting styli weights of up to 500g.
Divisional manager of Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology, Andrew Thompson commented: "With currently over 6,000 Vast scanning sensor installations, Carl Zeiss IMT is the leading supplier of scanning solutions in the world.
The new Contura G2 is a next generation bridge-type CMM, whose two configurations allow users to select the sensor best suited for their application without having to compromise on accuracy." Both Contura G2 models offer x, y, z measuring ranges of 700 x 700 x 600mm to 1000 x 2100 x 600mm, and are available with a 'U-Stone' option that increases the effective measuring range in the Z-height to 800mm.
Each is available with Carl Zeiss' industry standard CAD-based scanning software CALYPSO, and its extensions Gear-Pro for gear measurement and Blade-Pro for blade measurement.
CALYPSO can be also combined with Zeiss' HOLOS software, designed for the measurement of 3D surfaces.
The Contura G2 CMM will be showcased for the first time in the UK on Carl Zeiss stand (no.
5540, Hall 5) at the Mach 2006 Exhibition held at the NEC, Birmingham, in May 2006.
