Infrared temperature sensors range extended
Low cost high performance infrared temperature sensors now include an extended temperature range of 0 to 500degC, making them ideal for use with targets at elevated temperatures.
The housing is made of polished stainless steel and sealed to IP65; features which are important to food and pharmaceutical manufacturers.
However, its high performance and novel design will appeal to a wide range of industries including paper, plastics, automotive, chemicals, textiles and many more.
The temperature range can be adjusted between -20degC and 500degC to give optimum resolution, and the emissivity can be set from 0.1 to 1.0 to suit different materials.
The speed of response is an outstanding 250mSec.
There are currently two models to choose from; the IL101 with a 10:1 field of view, and the IL301 with a 30:1 field of view for small or distant objects.
The cable attached to the sensor provides two wires for the loop-powered 4/20mA output, and a 'D' connector for sensor configuration.
After loading the CalexLink software provided onto a PC and plugging the 'D' connector into the PC's parallel port (IEEE1284), users can read instantaneous, maximum, minimum and average temperatures in degC or degF.
They can also adjust the temperature range and emissivity, select peak or valley hold processing - particularly useful for measuring the temperature of hot or cold objects on a conveyor - and reduce the influence of temperature fluctuations with an adjustable averaging period.
Once the configuration is saved to the sensor the PC can be permanently disconnected.
Note that unlike other programmable sensors, there is no need for an expensive adapter or interface cable, and no need to connect an external power source at the 'D' connector during configuration! The sensor will operate in ambient temperatures up to 50 degC.
