Vision system dedicated to electronic
production

Cognex has introduced Display Inspect - a machine vision software and hardware package for inspecting displays, keypads, and enclosures on LCD and LED display-based products.

Cognex has introduced Display Inspect - a machine vision software and hardware package for inspecting displays, keypads, and enclosures on LCD and LED display-based products Display Inspect includes advanced machine vision software, an easy-to-use MS WindowsTM - based graphical user interface, and a choice of single board PC frame grabbers, to address the challenges of inspecting high-resolution displays commonly found on cellular phones, pagers, medical test instruments and other electronic devices

"The trend in electronic products manufacturing is to display as much information on the LCD or LED screen in as small of a space as possible," said Colin Graves, Sales Manager of Cognex UK.

"For example, electronic pagers now display entire messages in the same space that was once used for just a single phone number.

To accomplish this, display manufacturers have reduced the size of pixels that make up each character, making them very difficult to inspect for defects such as low pixel intensity or missing pixels while increasing the overall complexity of producing displays, " Continued Mr Graves.

"Cognex has developed patent-pending vision algorithms to reliably detect single pixel defects, thus ensuring that a number "8", for example, does not appear as a number as a number "3" to the consumer." Display Inspect is able to reliably find defects despite a variety of manufacturing problems that can cause the part to vary in appearance, including part rotation, inconsistent lighting, or air bubbles that form in the transparent lens tape commonly used to protect the display.

Display Inspect can also be used to perform a variety of other inspection tasks such as verifying the quality of print on logos, model numbers, and keypads, and determining if key or buttons have been placed in the correct position.

And, as many products are produced today in a rainbow of colours, manufacturers can use the Display Inspect to verify that a product's enclosure is the correct colour.

Display Inspect features a graphical user interface that enables manufacturing engineers with no programming experience to easily configure inspection applications using Windows-based dialogue boxes.

Applications can then be quickly modified when inspection requirements change due to new product features, logos, or model numbers.

Users can also store applications into memory and download them to other production lines on which similar products are being inspected. Request a free brochure from Cognex UK ...
