Pickled copper sheets checked by machine vision
Cognex says that Wieland-Werke AG, one of the world's largest copper strip manufacturers, has integrated Cognex's SmartView ICN web inspection system on its copper pickling line in Germany.
Cognex are believed to be the first company to offer this service.
It allows users, via the Cognex web site to summarise their application requirements by answering a short series of questions.
These cover details of the product to be inspected, sizes, tolerances and key information about the production line environment.
The user is also able to download an image of the part to be inspected, to help with the evaluation process.
An experienced applications engineer then delivers a preliminary examination response allowing the end user to find out quickly whether machine vision can be used to solve their inspection problem.
The aim of the service is to let potential customers know whether their application is worth progressing with and also to give Cognex a good idea of what the customer is trying to achieve.
"With the extensive use of email and web in industry these days end users are expecting a quick response from key suppliers.
The new online evaluation service ensures that an experienced engineer examines the potential application quickly and efficiently.
Cognex have supplied well over 175,000 machine vision systems worldwide.
Using the experience gained from these applications enables us to respond in this way." said Leigh Simpson Cognex UK Marketing Manager.
"Our new low cost, easy-to-use machine vision systems are opening up new markets and creating many new applications for machine vision.
However from our experience at Cognex, the world's largest supplier of machine vision systems, we estimate that 90% of potential applications are not being applied because end users are sceptical about whether vision can be successfully implemented. Request a free brochure from Cognex UK ...
One of the main aims of our new application evaluation service is to help dispel this concern.".
